Android devices

Emulation can be done on a wide variety of devices, from computers to smartphones, and even web browsers !

But if you want to reproduce a more authentic console-like experience, you might want to consider using a dedicated device for emulation.

Here are some popular Android devices for emulation:

As these devices run on Android, they can access the Google Play Store, use your existing Google account, and do pretty much everything a regular Android device can do, but with the added bonus of integrated controls and a more ergonomic design for gaming.

However, we still recommend downloading emulators directly from the developers' websites, as the Play Store is often full of fake, untrusted and ad-filled emulators.

PC Emulation

If you want to play your favorites PC games on Android devices, there are some options that will let you do that, such as:

  • GameNative (recommended): Steam, Epic, GOG and Amazon
  • JoiPlay: RPG Maker, Ren'Py, TyranoBuilder and Construct 2/3 games

They basically act as "Windows emulators" on Android, using compatibility layers like Wine and Proton.

Obtainium

Obtainium is an Android app that offers a more convenient way to download and manage software from their official sources.

To put it simply, it's like a Play Store, that goes and fetches software directly from the sources.

Basically, it looks at official releases page of software, and if it detects a new release, it will send you a notification, and allow you to download the latest version of the software directly from the app, without having to visit the website and search for the download link.

This can be very useful if you have a lot of emulators and other software to keep track of.

Also, the Obtainium-Emulation-Pack is a collection of popular emulators that can be easily installed and updated through Obtainium, making it even easier to manage your emulation software on Android devices.
